HELICONIAS
Heliconias are a genus of plants of the
family Heliconiaceae, native to tropical America and Southeast
Asia. Heliconias are characterized by their large, banana
- shaped leaves and large, brighly colored brachts, while
the true flowers are small, peeking out of the brachts.
Heliconias are often pollinated by hummingbirds.
BROMELIAS
The bromeliaceae family is predominantly
from tropical America, often growing epiphytically, however,
many species, notably pineapple (Ananas comusus),
grow terrestrially. Many bromelias, lacking roots, can store
water inside the plant using their specially adapted leaves.
